Staples for Students

Posted by Mary Gray on 07/20/2011

The summer is rapidly coming to a end, which means parents everywhere will begin their back-to-school shopping for clothing and school supplies. For the families of the BGCOKC members, this need is no different, however it may be harder for them to accomplish.

"This time of year we have families trying to decide if they should buy 1 pack of paper or 1 notebook to split among mutiple kids or if they should buy dinner," said A. Jaye Johnson, Unit Director for Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County.

It is for this reason, Staples, DoSomething.org and celebrities team up to help Club kids succeed in school by sponsering a School Supply Drive.

This summer, the stars of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars – Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, and Shay Mitchell - are teaming up with Staples and DoSomething.org for the 4th Annual Staples for Students Supply Drive. The program encourages teens to collect and donate school supplies at their local Staples store to support kids in need within their community. Through Staples’ national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, our Club has been selected to participate in this program and receive donations – but we need your help! Support Club youth who need us most by donating school supplies at your local Staples store and help these kids return to school prepared to learn and succeed. Donations can be dropped of at any Staples store nationwide through September the 17th. The specific Staples stores that our organization has been partnered with are located at:

  • 2844 NW 63rd St. STE A, Oklahoma City, OK 73116
  • 1632 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73013

Additionally, Staples customers will have the opportunity to participate by donating $1 at any U.S. Staples store location. Find out more about the program at StaplesforStudents.org.  Together, we can supply young people with the tools they need to realize academic success and enable them to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
