In communities around the world, Dell is helping youth discover new possibilities by closing the gap for learning. Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County is proud to have been a selected a recipient.
By placing state-of-the-art Dell technology into underserved communities and working with global non-profit organizations to teach technology skills, Powering the Possible helps young people discover new possibilities and change their lives.
Dell Powering the Possible will intervene in the lives of children caught in an ever widening gap of socio-economic segregation to ensure that members of the Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County have access to technology and appropriate reading and technology skills to fully utilize a state-of-the art technology center and the cutting-edge programming provided by Dell volunteers.
It will ensure that BGCOKC has the organizational infrastructure and support to fully engage Dell team members in its programming, and will recognize Dell’s strong commitment to helping the children of Oklahoma City ultimately compete in a global marketplace. The program will provide the resources to enable Club members to prepare for a great future.
“The Boys & Girls Club is proud to have been chosen as one of the Dell partners in the U.S. to help youth discover what is possible,” said President & CEO Jane Sutter.
“Although Dell has been a supporter of technology at the Boys & Girls Club since 2006, the staffing components of this grant take Dell’s involvement to an even more significant level than past technology provisions. As part of a Boys & Girls
Club of America initiative, our local Club is striving to deepen the positive impact we have with our members, including our ability to address basic obstacles to technological proficiency.”
Because of the program, members will have a greater academic achievement, better short-term grades on school work, higher self-esteem, increased levels of school effort and academic confidence. Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County will change their perception of their connectedness to technology and the world around them. Through collaborative processes, they will see themselves as more technologically, software and internet savvy. They will decrease their anxiety related to technology, and use it to express creativity. Members will have a greater understanding of software applications, a greater connection to technology that can impact their academic achievement, and better academic outcomes.
Michele Glaze, Director of Dell Powering the Possible said, “Teaching 21st century skills and increasing access to technology is fundamental to the development of critical skills for children in Oklahoma City so that they can reach their full potential.
